The mystery tour out-trip that was so well received last Jambo has been added to so that it will a Troop favourite. Each Troop will have 1 main out trip and 1 other if desired at no additional cost.

Cost for the Jamboree is $195 / youth, $90 /leader, plus your troop registration fee. This includes everything except your food and how you get to the site and home again. We are always looking to maintain the price as low as possible while providing the best activities and experience for your Troop. As a team, we feel this is still the best deal anywhere for your youth in the summer of 2008.

Scouters, I urge you to read and share the details inside of this package with your youth to see how you and your Troop can have a GREAT summer Jamboree experience.

Act Quick! We will be cutting off registrations at 700 participants. Don’t miss out!

Yours In Scouting

ARRIVALS and DEPARTURES

Please note that with the exception of overseas Troops, no Troops will be allowed on site until after 9:30 on the morning of the 12th (Saturday) and the Jamboree runs until 10:30 PM on the 19th so departures will be SUNDAY morning the 20th by noon.

LEADER RATIO and FEES

The minimum leader complement is 2 per troop. Please check and abide by your Region / District and Country regulations. A growing trend in Troops is to have Leaders rotate in and out for part weeks so that youth can get to camp and Leader obligations can be met. That is fine and we have a policy of only charging you for the actual leaders present. If you have a schedule that has coverage of 2 leaders per day with a small overlap of a night here and there we call that 2 leaders. We use Scouts Honour when it comes to this issue. In this case we would provide 2 sets of scarf / badge and you can purchase extras for the rotating leaders.

The Leader fees are lower this year. Leader fees are $90 per Leader.

SPECIAL OFFER FOR LEADERS

For any Troop that pre registers by April 30 2007, the Leader will get a FREE Jamboree souvenir mailed to them.

FEES, DEADLINE DATES, SUBSTITUTIONS,
REFUNDS AND REGISTRATION PROCESS

Camp fee is $195 Canadian per person attending. There is a $100 Troop Registration fee which is NON REFUNDABLE. Fifty dollars of the $100 can be used as a credit with your second payment. This $100 must be sent with your registration form if registering by snail mail. If registering from the website, (PREFERRED), you must mail the $100 within 2 weeks to confirm the email or you will be deleted. If you back out you lose the $100 Troop pre registration. The camp fee is divided into 2 payments to make it easier for youth to afford. We give the full bank exchange rate that we get on foreign registration monies.

The first $ 100 per youth / $90 per adult payment is due 6 weeks after your initial registration or March 1st, 2008 whichever is later. THIS PAYMENT IS NON REFUNDABLE and NON CREDITABLE. If you are just getting the package and it is past March 1st, 2008, don't panic. Call me to see if there is still space and to let me know you are coming and send off the $100 Troop fee and make arrangements for the initial$100 per youth / $90 per leader.

The second $95 per person is due March 1st, 2008. Again, if you get the package late, call me to see if there is still room. At this point, this fee is now also NON REFUNDABLE. ( In the event of a physician supported claim or verifiable extreme family crisis, this portion of the fee IS refundable.) You may substitute youth right up to 2 weeks prior the Jamboree with no penalty, as long as you e mail me with a SUBSTITUTION form and the sub accepts the program set up for the original youth. You can also ADD youth and leaders, IF SPACE IS AVAILABLE, up to 4 weeks prior to the Jamboree but please keep this to a minimum as it really adds to our paperwork. Forms for program choices, medical etc. will be on the website no later than September 1, 2007. For program picks, the sooner you fill in the web form, the better.

FULL DETAILS OF DATES AND REGISTRATION/ SUBSTITUTION POLICY WILL BE SENT TO CONTACT LEADER

Note: Registration

This Jamboree is ALL electronic from this point on. We will do all of our communication via email. I realize that not all have email BUT, someone in your group does. ALL unit updates and forms and maps etc will be downloadable from the Jambo homepage. PLEASE list an EMAIL CONTACT on the form. It will greatly improve communication for all concerned. If you paper register and do not list one, we will call you looking for one.

JAMBOREE PROGRAM - General Comments

The program at the Jamboree is divided into a series of villages and day trips designed to allow your youth the maximum amount of program during their stay at the Jamboree. Even though villages are designed to be experienced in a single 3 hour time period, it is not generally possible to do everything in the village in 1 visit so you will have to discuss the various options carefully with your youth. Some villages are available for more than 1 scheduling time per troop. Full details about schedules will be e-mailed to units that fill in their registration form. Listed below is a quick outline of each village to give you an idea of what to expect.

VILLAGE 1 – “FOOTSTEPS of the FOUNDER”

Each station is designed to allow hands on experience, as well as teaching of various “old time “ and “current” techniques and Scouting skills. E.g. are Dutch Oven cooking (and EATING of what is cooked), handicapable awareness Scouting at camp, First Aid disaster area, Super Size Pioneering and more. We have 3 blacksmiths and a tinsmith that have hands on training for youth and Leaders also. This village is designed to provide fun for youth of all Scout ages including 3rd year Cubs just coming into the Scout Program.

VILLAGE 2 - Adventure Village

In this area we will have the Repel towers, a climbing wall, Ariel runway, archery ranges, BB rifle ranges, Orienteering, 3 way tug o war and fire brigade wars. No way to be bored here! This village is designed to provide fun for youth of all Scout ages.

VILLAGE 3 - Handicraft Village

In the Handicraft Village area, youth will have the opportunity to create special Scout age craft items. Specialty woggle making, T-shirt silk screen with area logos, woodcarving, porcelain painting (a huge hit in past years), personalized button making and much more. In the Leather area, leather crafts such as moccasins, arm bands, key fobs with special Jambo stamps and other leather items will be made. We have also added 2 items from the past to this village as a special challenge for youth. These villages are designed to provide fun for youth of all Scout ages including 3rd year Cubs just coming into the Scout Program.

CANOE PROGRAM VILLAGE

There are 2 levels in the canoe program. We will offer a full day program consisting of ˝ day instruction for beginners and ˝ day regatta to put into practice the skills just learned. The second level is an advanced canoe trip for Scouts with prior canoe tripping and serious skill level. This trip is not for rookies. You will be able to book either part of this area when you book your main program. Further details on the day program and the trip will be available in the Program Selection package.

SPECIAL NIGHT SUBCAMP PROGRAM - Game Show Madness

This will run from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Game Show is split over 2 nights. Two nights of crazy fun and events that run rain or shine (but not in First Class Thunderstorms). Game Show night will consist of each Troop running their favourite game show one night and being a contestant the next. You can go nuts with costumes, prizes etc. Game picked may be from the past or present. Full “guidelines” on Webpage after registration. Special prizes and awards as well as tons of fun plus the opportunity to make new friends will make this a special part of the Jamboree program.

Souvenir Pre-Order Form

We STRONGLY suggest that you pre-order your souvenirs for this Jamboree. The form is on the Website and will give you a total when you fill it out. Send the money in Canadian Funds to the address on the Website. We will have a VERY LIMITED number of shirts and crests available at the Jamboree. Final date to order shirts on pre-order is May 15th ,2008. Order will be waiting at Registration when you preorder and prepay. All orders must be prepaid if you want to be sure of getting your stuff.

OUT-TRIP

All units will be scheduled to go on a day trip to an area water park. There is no added cost for the trip or for the admission fee. It is part of the Jambo package. You will have unlimited use of the water events and 2 added areas. You will leave camp by bus after breakfast and return just prior to supper.

VILLAGE 5 - What's it? Village

5 new events as well as the best of the old ones; a series of 25 Fun, Goofy events, many of which are self-directed that have proven to be a hit with Scout age youth. Favourites like human checkers, Super Soaker wars, Goofy Golf, and water balloon tennis will be back. Lots of wackiness to challenge your creativity, skills and fun quotient. Since we have a new location we were also able to include monkey bridge, high wire walk and a new and VERY special super event we will keep under wraps until you arrive. This is a great village to hit twice. This village is designed to provide fun for youth of all Scout ages.

VILLAGE 6 – “Back to Brownsea”

This is an Overnight adventure for 18 youth at a time. No leaders. Youth will hike into the event area after breakfast and set up camp using gear very much like BP had at Brownsea. Cooking will be done on wood fires and a full day and night program of instruction and fun await the youth adventurous enough to sign up for this. NOTE :Youth must have completed 1 full year in the Scout program to be eligible for this area. We have added to last years experimental program to increase the challenge for youth.

VILLAGE 7 – Day hike 8KM / 15KM / 25KM

The 8 KM day hike has been tweaked to include a pool for sure this time. The 15 km bush hike leaves at 5:30 AM and returns for supper also. The 25 KM is an overnight on the Bruce Trail. Trips must be pre booked.. We would suggest that the 15 KM / 25 Km hikes are for 2nd year and up Scout youth and adults in relatively good shape. You will be carrying your own gear. All trips are bussed to and from hike areas.

CULTURAL MYSTERY TOURS

The area around the camp lends itself to several self- discovery cultural / historical based tours. You will be loaded on a bus in the AM and taken all around the area, stopping at local areas of interest. We won’t tell you the sites, but we can tell you that we have found 2 great ones. Lunch will be a Troop provided brown bag affair and you will be back at the camp in time for supper. This trip is free, all admission costs for areas will be paid by the Jamboree; all bus costs are covered. Time in the bus is short compared to the time you spend checking out the areas. This is an area that must be pre booked by troop with your program choices as it will fill quickly.

Display Area

We will again make every effort to have things on site that are of interest to youth of Scout age and leaders. The list will be published in the first Jamboree newspaper that you will get when you arrive on site.

********INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION********

We have interest from England and Holland already. In the past we have had several troops from the USA join us and add to the program

Tuck Shop

This shop will carry pop, bottled water, ice and candy as well as the limited supply of camp souvenirs. We will be carrying some limited groceries such as milk, bread, fruit and other items.

FOOD SERVICES

You will be doing your own cooking at this Jamboree. Each Troop will leave 1 car in the “Active” parking lot. The remainder of vehicles and all Troop Trailers will be in “Dead” parking and inaccessible. The car in the Active lot will be available between 9 AM and 5 PM for 1 leader to go into town to get food as needed. It is 5 minutes to town. For units from overseas, we will provide transport once per day into town from the camp. Some goods will be available from the tuck shop. NOTE: No camper vehicles will be allowed out of camp after 5PM without authorization from the Security Chief personally.
