IF YOU ARE A NEW STAFFER , THESE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR ROLE AT JAMBO 2008
Dates for Jambo are July 12 – 19 , 2008
Cost of the Jamboree is $85 CANADIAN.
If you are a new staff member, a cheque for this amount MUST be mailed to the address below within 30 days of filling in the Staff Application form. Failure to do so will result in your application being removed from the database. In the event that you are unable to meet this deadline you must contact me via email so I leave you in the database.
If you are a returning staff member, you can pay at the meeting on November 24, 2007 OR you can mail the money in to Carol now.
Note that staff will be assigned to the benefit of the Jamboree. We ask you to state a preference and will TRY to get you in that area but do not guarantee this. All Security staff are subject to the approval of the Security Chief.
Staff need to be at least 15 by the start of Jamboree OR hold the Chief Scout Award , Eagle Scout Award or similar high award in Guiding or Girl Scouts. Applications from Beaver and Cub Leaders, Venturer and Rover Advisors are very welcome as are Group Committee members
All staff who are not known to the Human Resources Committee of the Jamboree must be interviewed. Ideally, this interview will take place at the staff meeting of November 24, 2007.
All staff are urged and requested to attend the staff meeting of November 24, 2007. Location will be London area. Site to be confirmed. Food will be provided for Saturday lunch, supper.
Staff fee covers all meals from Thursday July 10, 2008 lunch to Sunday breakfast July 20, 2008 at the end of Jambo. It also covers a staff T shirt and staff crest. You will be assigned into work crews for Jambo setup as you arrive.
PLEASE NOTE that the staff are needed on the Sunday ( July 20th ) to assist in breaking down the Jamboree. PLEASE plan on being up early on the Sunday and working until the task is finished. If all help , we will be gone by noon.
As well, the Jamboree staff will be provided with a staff scarf, staff name tag and staff hat. These are for identification purposes. You MUST wear the hat, name tag and scarf correctly at all times when working in your area. The only exceptions are the people on the tower, canoe and high wire. If other areas pose a safety risk for wearing the scarf, they will be addressed on an as seen basis.
Village Managers are requested to attend a staff meeting in March, 2008. Location and exact date to be announced. (Likely Toronto area). We will be having a final programming meeting on that date. Food will be provided for Saturday lunch, supper.
Staff will camp in the area designated for staff camping and not with their home Troop.
NO CO ED camping for staff under 18 will be allowed. Breaking this rule will mean expulsion from the Jamboree.
Smoking will be allowed for staff over 19 in designated areas. Staff under 19, as per Ontario law, will not be smoking.
Staff who register and pay will get access to the web updates.
NOTE: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE WEB FOR UPDATES. WE WILL SEND THEM OUT BUT MANY ISP’S ARE NOW BLOCKING BULK E MAILS AS SPAM. IF YOU HAVE HOTMAIL YOU LIKELY WILL NOT GET MY E MAILS.
In the past we have had people register and then claim no communication since email has not gone through. This way , YOU will be the person checking for the info you need. Note also that there will only be 2 – 3 updates and the first will not be until AT LEAST January 2007. However , we will be posting a DRAFT of the staff placements as of December 2006.
Staff will not bring pets, radios, electronic equipment with them.
Staff whose areas are shut down due to weather or equipment failure need to understand that they will be reassigned through the Admin to other areas for the duration of the shut down.
Days off, out trips etc are generally not possible but may happen if approved through the Village Manager and the Program Manager. Our main focus is to provide maximum program at all times.
Staff are responsible for providing their own tent or trailer to sleep in.
We do not promise days off. We do
promise 1 hour of sleep per night. Extra is a bonus.
We will make all reasonable efforts to meet dietary needs.
All Staff over 18 will be required to obtain a letter from their DC’s/Council office in the 2007/2008 Scouting year prior to Jamboree that they are in fact members in good standing in Scouts Canada, BSA, Girl Guides, Girl Scouts or your home Country Scouting Association.
Staff who are not members of Scouting or Guiding will need to provide a copy of a Police Record Check that has been done within 3 years of the start of Jambo.
